ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (APP)‑ Pakistan on Monday participated the signing ceremony of the founding treaty of the International Agency for Renewable Resources (IRENA) in Bonn, Germany.
The purpose of setting up IRENA was to promote renewable energy and help create conditions for their development. The main objective of this agency was to encourage and promote the adoption of renewable energies worldwide. Pakistan was represented by Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) Chief Executive Arif Alauddin at the ceremony, participated by representatives of 100 countries across the globe. AEDB has been nominated as the focal body by Government of Pakistan for coordination with the newly set up world body on renewable energy. IRENA would be the only international organization that would be solely dedicated to the promotion of renewable energy, and its membership is open to all United Nations member states.
